UJJI NEWS (DEC. 03) : Telangana State Government has issued a crucial order extending the limits of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to cover the entire Telangana Core Urban Region (TCUR). The decision was announced through G.O.Ms.No.264, released by the Metropolitan Area & Urban Development (MA&UD) Department on December 3, 2025.

Key Amendments to GHMC Act Come Into Effect
The government made significant amendments to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act, 1955, which came into force on December 1, 2025, based on the latest ordinances published in the Extraordinary Telangana Gazette.
According to the orders: 20 Municipalities, 7 Municipal Corporations were removed from the purview of the Telangana Municipalities Act, 2019.
Subsequently, through another ordinance, a total of 27 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs)—including 20 Municipalities and 7 Corporations—were integrated into the GHMC-defined city area.
Expanded GHMC Limits Effective From December 2
The official notification confirms that the GHMC’s territorial limits have now been extended to the entire Telangana Core Urban Region. These expanded limits are considered effective from December 2, 2025, as per Section 3(3B) of the GHMC Act.
Order Issued in the Name of the Governor – The notification was issued “By order and in the name of the Governor of Telangana” by K. Ramakrishna Rao, Chief Secretary to the Government & Secretary to Government .
